Live music at CKW - Chris Rattie & The New Rebels/Ian Carroll

chris-rattie.jpg

Live music at Above Kettle Works, the second floor of our Columbia, PA brewpub

Chris Rattie blends country’s aching ethos with a keen eye for the future. He rises out of the muck and mire to be one of today’s most riveting, astute storytellers. The singer, songwriter and musician wraps his Steve Earle-wrinkled voice around tales of self-realization and wonder on his latest album. Porch (released 2017) is steeped in frothy Americana, burnt around the edges with electric guitar and honest, godforsaken songwriting. “I’ve been out all night long singing these heartbroke songs. Ain’t nobody listening,” he sings on “A Little Shot Glass from Spain.” Later, he pontificates “Country Boy” tropes, fed with a provocative spoken word intro. “Country boy drives a big red truck. Loves rolling coal, it makes him feel real tough. Rebel flag stuck on the back,” he wails over smokey guitar lines and a honky-tonk rumble.

Porch is as much a masterful creative accomplishment as it is a raw recollection of his tireless journey to get there, the culmination of years of blood, sweat and tears. A native to central Pennsylvania, he cut his teeth as drummer for Vince Welnick of The Tubes and The Grateful Dead, drummer and prominent songwriter in The Rustlanders (whose second album was helmed by producer Don Was and recorded in L.A.’s East West Studios), and vocals/drums/guitar in rock band Marah. The experiences wrought invaluable wisdom, bestowing upon him the exact skills he needed to write, record and play the album he was always destined to make. Through nine coarsely-delivered, poignant tracks, Rattie defies convention and situates himself as transcendent.

Special guest: Ian Carroll, one man band. Folk fiddle, clogging, drum and voice. Celtic and European traditional folk music, bluegrass and original works.

Pine Car Grand Prix at CKW

Register Online
Sponsorship Opportunities
Flyer

For more than 65 years, boys have turned a block of pine wood, four plastic tires and metal axles into race cars - some fast, some not so fast. For many adult men, their favorite memory was the pine car derby racing.

The Brotherhood 500 Pine Car Grand Prix gives adult participants the opportunity to relive the fun and excitement of building their own cars and racing them on real pine car race tracks. They get a chance to build the car they wish they had years ago as a youth - maybe even settle some scores. But most of all, this will be a fun event in a friendly atmosphere with friends and coworkers while enjoying craft beers and great food!

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wunita Gokhos Lodge camp improvement fund.

The event will feature:

  • Catered BBQ

  • Prizes

  • Trophies

  • Instant replays

  • FUN!

Live music at CKW - Harper and The Midwest Kind

Live music at Above Kettle Works, the second floor of our Columbia, PA brewpub

Harper and The Midwest Kind
Award-winning Australian singer/songwriter Peter D. Harper — known in the music world simply as "Harper" — creates a heady mix of roots music through his creative use of the harmonica and the haunting drone of the didgeridoo. Harper’s latest CD, “Show Your Love,” features 11 original road-tested tracks recorded with his well-traveled Detroit-based touring band “Midwest Kind.” "Show Your Love" hit # 3 on Billboard, USA and remained in the Top Ten for an incredible six months!

Harper possesses a powerful soulful voice and a deep, almost mystical approach to music that some might say has evolved into its own genre. Harper calls it “World Blues” -- a rich musical stew of ‘50s rhythm and blues, a ‘60s message of love and unity, and ‘70s funky soul, stirred up with masterful, virtuoso harmonica and the deep, woody, percussive tones of the didgeridoo, served up in a feast of timeless mystery.
